A new landmark recording of the Holy Qur’an by the great Libyan Qari Sheikh Dukali Muhammad Al-Alem has been released. Produced by Kalam Research and Media and recorded by Sheikh Dukali in Dubai at the renowned Let The Change Be Studios, the recording is available for free download on Soundcloud and iTunes or can be ordered online in a gift box set. Sheikh Dukali’s recitation is in Hafs, the most popular style of recitation throughout most of the Muslim world.
Sohail Nakhooda, Research and Publications Director at Kalam Research and Media, explained that the importance of producing this new recording was to preserve an ancient spiritual tradition under siege by extremists in Libya and to send a message of hope for Libya to counterpoint the tragic headlines. “Libya has one of the most profound spiritual traditions in the Muslim world, one of tolerance, compassion, kindness, generosity, wisdom and love of beauty,” he said. “Libya’s precious cultural and spiritual traditions are under grave threat by fanatics. Sheikh Dukali’s masterful reading of the Holy Qur’an is a proof that the Libyan spiritual tradition is alive and well.”

Biography of Sheikh Dukali Muhammad al-Alem
Sheikh al-Alem was born in 1949 in Msallata and memorized the Qur’an at an early age, continuing his education at the Zawiya of Sidi ‘Abd al-Salam al-Asmar and receiving a a degree in Sharia studies at Bayda Islamic University (formerly known as Muhammad ibn ‘Ali al-Sanusi University). He served as Imam at the Ibn al-Amin Mosque in Tripoli and led the Tarawih prayers in Mawlay Muhammad Mosque, which were broadcast on Libyan television. A master of Qur’anic recitation, he has served on the jury of Qur’anic competitions in Malaysia, Iran, Egypt and Morocco. He made two previous recordings of the Qur’an previously during the 1990s in Libya and Lebanon, in Qalun style, the most popular style in Libya.
