Kalam Research & Media (KRM) has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Istanbul Foundation for Knowledge and Culture’s Media Institute (IIKV Medeniyet Enstitüsü), marking a significant expansion of KRM’s research partnerships in Turkey.
The agreement was formalized following Dr. Aref Ali Nayed’s visit to the IIKV Foundation in Istanbul, where he met with foundation leadership and scholars to discuss areas of mutual interest in research, media, and technology.
Building on Shared Vision
The Istanbul Foundation for Knowledge and Culture (IIKV) has a long history of promoting scholarly dialogue and cultural exchange. The foundation’s Media Institute focuses on contemporary media studies, digital communication, and the role of technology in shaping public discourse – areas that align with KRM’s own research agenda.
The strategic cooperation agreement establishes a framework for collaborative research, exchange of expertise, and joint initiatives in areas including:
- Media and communication studies
- Technology and society
- Digital humanities and Islamic scholarship
- Public engagement with complex ideas
A Two-Part Engagement
Dr. Nayed’s engagement with IIKV unfolded in two stages. His initial visit to the foundation included discussions with scholars and researchers about potential collaboration. This was followed by the formal signing of the strategic cooperation agreement with the Media Institute, cementing the partnership.
The partnership with IIKV represents KRM’s commitment to building bridges between research institutions across different regions. Turkey’s position as a hub for Islamic scholarship and its growing role in technology development make it an important partner for KRM’s work.
Broader Turkish Partnerships
The IIKV agreement builds on KRM’s existing relationships with Turkish academic institutions. KRM maintains active partnerships with Üsküdar University and has participated in numerous scholarly events in Turkey, particularly in the area of Nursi studies and contemporary Islamic thought.
These Turkish partnerships complement KRM’s network of institutional relationships across Europe, North America, and the Arab world, creating opportunities for comparative research and cross-cultural dialogue on pressing questions in technology, ethics, and society.
Future Directions
The cooperation agreement opens possibilities for joint research projects, scholar exchanges, and collaborative publications. It also positions both institutions to address emerging questions about the role of media and technology in Muslim-majority societies and in interfaith contexts.
As digital technologies reshape communication and social interaction globally, partnerships like the one between KRM and IIKV become increasingly important. They provide frameworks for grounded, culturally-informed research on technology’s impact and for developing responses rooted in diverse intellectual traditions.
