Interview with Dr Malik Badri on Islamic Psychology

The Director of the islamic and Strategic Studies Institute (ISSI), Dr Amran Muhammed, hosted a special meeting with Professor Malik Badri to discuss a meeting to discuss issues in Islamic Psychology.

The Director of the islamic and Strategic Studies Institute (ISSI) hosted a special meeting with Professor Malik Badri on 9 July 2018 to discuss issues in Islamic Psychology. Also invited to the meeting where ISSI interns from Germany and Malaysia. 

Dr Malik Badri is one of leading figures in the field in contemporary Islamic Psychology. Dr Badri hails from Sudan and he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the American University of Beirut, a Master’s and PhD degrees from the University of Leicester. Dr Badri presented distinguished scientific research after obtaining his PhD in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurology, Middlesex Hospital, London, and held several teaching positions, including, Assistant Professor at the American University of Beirut, Visiting Professor and Head of the Department of Psychology at the University of Jordan, Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology and Education and Director of the Guidance and Psychological Counseling Unit at Omdurman Islamic University, and Distinguished Professor of the Ibn Khaldun Chair at the International Islamic University in Malaysia. He is also President of the International Association of Islamic Psychology. Dr. Badri published many books and research articles in both Arabic and English. His books include The Dilemma of Muslim Psychologists and Contemplation: An Islamic Psychospiritual Study. His work defined a new field of specialization and had enormous impact throughout the Western and Muslim world.

Dr Amran Muhammed interviewed Dr Badri a number of key issues in the discipline and the rich discussion lasted for almost two hours. The meeting was held at the Juwayni Room at the campus of the International Islamic University Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.

The session with Professor Dr. Malik Badri on Islamic Psychology was held in conjunction with the new “Renewal (Tajdid) of Kalam Masterclass: Thought, Tradition and Trajectory with Special Focus on Islamic Psychology” which are to be held via 8 sessions spread over 4 weeks. This lecture series will be inviting a number of leading figures in Psychology in Malaysia. 

The interview with Dr Badri was organised by two students from the University of Wuppertal, Germany who are currently doing their internship at ISSI.
