Dr Karim Gábor Kocsenda

Uṣūl al-Fiqh, Science and Religion, and Theology

Karim Kocsenda holds an LLB in Law from Durham University, an MRes in Humanities from the University of Exeter, and a PhD from the University of Nottingham where his research focused on debates about human freedom and determinism. He is the official translator of Shaykh Abdallah bin Bayyah’s works on jurisprudence and philosophy of law at the Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace. His recent studies center around the interface between language, logic, and the contextual application of law (taḥqīq al-manāṭ), especially in the work of al-Ghazālī, al-Shāṭibī, and bin Bayyah. Karim previously worked on the Kalam and Philosophy Glossary in English and Arabic for KRM, and has written papers on the reception of Darwinism in Shīʿī thought and among contemporary reformist Muslims. In addition to his academic projects, Karim has offered consultancy on curriculum development, interfaith dialogue, and peacemaking.
